Established in 1985, the institute is profoundly advancing our understanding of human biology in health and disease. Many of the breakthroughs that began as fundamental research have resulted in new and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat prevalent conditions. The institute is affiliated with the University of Toronto and is focused on women’s and infants’ health, cancer biology, stem cell biology, neurobiology, diabetes, arthritis, health systems research, population health services and solutions and systems biology.

Close to 40 internationally-recognized principle investigators work in contemporary fields of investigation that are aligned with the flagship clinical programs and continue to make leading-edge discoveries.

With the formation of Sinai Health the scope of research expanded, leveraging the important research of the Bridgepoint Collaboratory for Research and Innovation in the area of health systems research, population health services and solutions.

The Mount Sinai Hospital Research Ethics Board (REB) oversees all research involving human subjects conducted under the auspices of Mount Sinai Hospital to ensure that such research meets the highest scientific and ethical standards.
