Dr. Gerald O’Leary

Dr. Gerald O’Leary is the Anesthesiologist-in-Chief for the Sinai Health. A trusted leader in his field, he is also the Anesthesiologist-in-Chief at a number of Toronto health-care institutions, including the University Health Network, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Women’s College Hospital and the Kensington Eye Institute.

Dr. O’Leary is the Vice-Chair, Clinical Practice, Anesthesia, Faculty of Medicine, and Associate Professor, Anesthesia at the University of Toronto. He is also an Assistant Professor (Status only), at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto.

Education

Dr. O’Leary received anesthesia training at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland and came to Toronto in 1986 as a clinical/research fellow. He received his FRCPC in 1990.

Research

Dr. O’Leary has several articles published in the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia and Anesthesiology, focusing on the administration of anesthesia in post-cesarean section patients, urological procedures, liver transplantation and cardiac surgery.

Awards and recognition

In 2010, Dr. O’Leary received the Wightman Berris Individual Teaching Award for Health Profession Programs, from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto.
