Joseph Lebovic, C.M.
Real Estate Developer, Philanthropist
Joseph Lebovic’s career has evolved over more than fifty years, from its beginnings in a family-owned sawmill in Mattawa, Ontario, to that of a major builder and land developer throughout southern Ontario.
In 1953, with his father and his brother, Joseph established Lebovic Enterprises Limited, which now comprises subsidiary companies involved in residential, commercial and industrial land development and construction. Joseph has served three terms as President of the Urban Development Institute (UDI), twice in Ontario and once in Canada.
Joseph has been a member of UDI/Ontario’s Board of Directors for over twenty years and has been presented with The Urban Design Award for projects in Scarborough.
In 2005, he was awarded The Spirit of Jerusalem Medallion from the State of Israel Bonds and in 2006 was recognized as a Holocaust Survivor by the Province of Ontario in affiliation with the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem. He was awarded the Canada Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada by the Governor General of Canada. Joseph also received the Beth Sholom Synagogue Humanitarian Award for his “passion to give back to the community.”
Joseph attended university in London, England where he studied Theology and Economics. Joseph is also the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Yeshiva University in New York.
