Susan Brown

Executive Vice President, People & Transformation and Chief Human Resources Officer

Susan is a proven human resources and organizational development executive with expertise in strategic planning, change management and transformation leadership, committed to creating caring, compassionate and accountable workplaces to ensure a high-quality and safe employee, patient and caregiver experience.

She has over two decades of health care leadership experience, spanning roles in strategy, corporate planning, patient experience, organizational development and human resources, with a focus on leading organizational renewal and transformation in multi-site, academic and complex health care organizations.

As the organization’s senior executive responsible for our people and culture, Susan is responsible for guiding and leading Sinai Health in valuing and supporting our people and working with all of Sinai Health’s leadership to foster a culture that brings out the best in our people, ensuring ‘no better place to work’.

Prior to joining Sinai Health as our Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer, Susan served in increasingly senior leadership roles in the Strategy & Transformation, Patient Experience, Quality & Safety and Academic Practice portfolio at the University Health Network (UHN). There, she was accountable for the development of UHN’s Patient Experience Roadmap, oversaw the launch of the organization’s Patient Portal, and was a member of the team responsible for the refresh of UHN’s Purpose, Values and Principles.

In 2015, Susan received a “20 Faces of Change” award from The Change Foundation, an independent health policy think-tank in Ontario, for her work on UHN’s Patient Experience Roadmap. The award recognized 20 leaders who were instrumental in improving health care experiences for patients and their caregivers.

Susan has a Masters of Arts in Leadership and Organizational Change from the University of Guelph. She has also completed the Rotman Executive Leadership Certificate from the University of Toronto and the Executive Development Program from Queens University. Susan is pursuing her certification in Leadership & Performance Coaching.

Over the years, Susan has been a Chair of the Health Council for St. James Cathedral and Co-chair of the Associated Medical Services Phoenix project. She has been a Human Resources advisor to Wellspring Community Services and provides formal mentorship to new leaders in the community and in her place of work.
