Through the process of discovering Sinai Health’s Purpose and Values, we heard from over 1,600 voices including employees, learners, physicians, scientists and volunteers. We heard from patient and family caregiver advisors as well as patients and families receiving care.
From our two founding institutions comes the belief that we are here in service of others. Our shared history of caring for those who were vulnerable and marginalized, and our Jewish heritage, calls us to serve the health needs of our community.
“As we went through the process, what became clear was the importance of honouring our history and punctuating that our Purpose and Values evolved from the legacy of our two founding hospitals,” says Susan Brown, EVP, People & Culture and Chief Human Resources Officer. “That’s why, we have created a Legacy
Statement which serves as the foundation for this work and our Purpose and Values.”
After receiving feedback from Open Houses, the online survey and other engagement sessions, the final Purpose and Values is officially approved.
“Using all of the input received, we made some changes based on what our people told us,” says Susan. “We are thrilled to share the final Purpose and Values with you and begin to partner with you to integrate and embed this into everything we do at Sinai Health.”
Launching alongside the Purpose and Values is a set of Values-based Behaviours. These Behaviours were developed based on input from all, and describe how our values will be lived out. (Read the Values-based Behaviours here.)
“You’ll begin to see our Purpose and Values across our campuses on the walls of conference rooms and on new lanyards and badge cards, but also in orientation, performance appraisals and recruitment. But the real opportunity is when each of us embraces and lives out these values in all our interactions,” adds Susan.
