With over 20 years as a health-care executive, John brings rigorous financial oversight and strategic business skills to our operations.

John joined Sinai Health System in 2019 to guide the organization’s financial sustainability and provide financial and operational leadership of Sinai’s facilities renewal, which includes doubling the size of our Emergency Department and opening new Operating Rooms.

He is a CPA, CA with extensive experience in information technology, supply chain, clinical programs and clinical support departments. In both the health-care sector and private sector, John has led transformational change through business restructuring, financial sustainability, performance improvement and the application of information systems to improve quality and efficiency. Most recently, under John’s leadership, North York General Hospital became the first hospital in Canada to be awarded the prestigious HIMSS Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence which recognizes outstanding achievement of organizations who have utilized health information technology to substantially improve patient outcomes and value.

John’s commitment to strengthening health-care throughout our system is reflected in his experience at three Ontario hospitals and a secondment to the Ontario Ministry of Health, in a financial advisory role related to Health Services Restructuring Commission directives to Ontario hospitals.

Prior to joining Sinai Health, John served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice-President Information & Corporate Services of North York General Hospital, overseeing finance, business intelligence, information services, health information management and supply chain. He has also worked at Hospital for Sick Children, holding various senior finance and IT roles. At Rouge Valley Health System, he was Vice-President and CFO, leading a diverse portfolio including finance, information services, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services.

John has served on several health sector committees and Boards of Directors over his career, including the North York Family Health Team, as board member and Chair of the finance committee, and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Resources Committee for the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario.

John started his career in the private sector with PwC, providing business restructuring services to corporate clients and advising secured creditors of companies in severe financial difficulty. He has also worked at IBM’s global services group leading strategy and change consulting work for health sector clients across Canada, with a focus on digital health.
